Fulfilling promises, Apple Wireless Keyboard working with KBluetooth

Hi fellow users and developers, sooner than I thought, I have more things to share with you about KBluetooth, so let’s go :)

Happens that month’s ago Apol lent me his Apple Wireless Keyboard so I can give support to it in KBluetooth. After small research I concluded that the keyboard wasn’t standard, so I just pull it over. Then, a few days ago, Ereslibre was playing with a Gnome and I decided to try to pair the Apple keyboard using the Gnome Bluetooth System, and guess what… it worked !

So, today, I decided do not go to sleep until I got it working, and here I am, 03:12 and writting this entry with that keyboard :)

This feature, should fix the keyboard pairing completely, not matter if your keyboard is the Apple one or not.

This feature will be available in the next version (0.5) together with a new Wizard and maybe a new (or at least improved) device manager.

If you can test your “non-working” keyboard with the trunk version and give me some feedback, I’ll be very appreciated :)

Cya and Happy Hacking!

    Love you man, great job!

    Now if we only had easy way to pair cellphones and have modem over bluetooth nicely integrated in the network manager.

    But as I said, good job there! :)

    Thanks so much! thats a big help to use KDE users and lovers. GNOME with all their legacy code seems to be way ahead of us on some fronts. But KDE 4 is shaping up real nice.. just wish i could also help.

    I’m a Qt C++, C# developer and last used the KDE framework in the KDE2 days. I would love to get involved again. Just need some mentors to help me along.

    Thanks

    HI, this is a good news! :D I wish, that all kbluetooth settings be moved to systemsettings. Of course you can still open settings/device manager from right click menu :)

    How do you do to type your login and password if you have to wait for KDE (and KBluetooth) to launch before pairing your keyboard ?

    My iMac pair my keyboard at startup, and it has always worked on Linux too.

    @Mark
    There are different versions of the same keyboard, what is not working in the stable version is the pairing, the keyboard doesn’t ask for a pair so pairing is never done. Now is KBluetooth who says “He you gare pair with me”, which btw is how GNOME bluetooth system always does iirc (The GNOME system is done by bluez ppl, so it should be more or less perfect).

    @Pöh
    I’ll talk with will stephenson about that.

    @Samuel Mukoti
    I’m kind of busy right now planning/witting the new Bluetooth stack, take a look at kde-hardware-devel mailist to know what I’m talking about.
    Maybe you should ask in kde-devel, there are plenty developers willing to help there and a lot of projects ( Kopete!!) that needs more help than KBluetooth :p

    @Venky80
    Once again, in the next version I hope, which is 0.5 and will be released asap.

    @sheytan
    This will have to wait until KDE SC 4.5

    @Pierre M
    In theory, Bluez save the needed data usually in /var/bluetooth so it can “autopair” you device. The only thing you’ve to do is set the device as trusted.

    You can use Pulseaudio until kbluetooth implements this.

    Good to see progress being made. Hope to see bluetooth under KDE exceed the stability and functionality of the gnomies :)
